South Aegean
The Cyclades and the Dodecanese: Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, Milos and Rhodes.
About the region
The South Aegean combines Greece's two best-known archipelagos. The Cyclades offer white villages, the caldera and beaches; the Dodecanese offer medieval castles and history. Each island has its own character, from cosmopolitan to genuinely quiet.
What makes this region special
- The caldera and sunset of Santorini
- Naxos Chora and its sandy beaches
- Milos beaches such as Sarakiniko
- The medieval city of Rhodes and Lindos
- Small islands for quiet: Koufonisia, Sifnos, Amorgos
Across the seasons
Spring
Ideal for hiking and quiet walks before everything opens.
Summer
Swimming and the meltemi wind; the famous islands are packed.
Autumn
Warm sea in September and fewer people.
Winter
Many islands sleep; Syros, Naxos and Rhodes stay lively.
