Peloponnese
Nafplio, Monemvasia, Mani and ancient history within short distances.
About the region
The Peloponnese is one of the richest destinations in history close to Athens: Nafplio, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Sparta and Mystras, Monemvasia and the wild Mani. In the Arcadian mountains you find stone villages and gorges, and in the south the long beaches of Messenia.
What makes this region special
- Nafplio's old town and the Palamidi fortress
- The ancient theatre of Epidaurus and Mycenae
- Monemvasia, a medieval castle town on the sea
- Mystras and the tower houses of Mani
- Dimitsana, Stemnitsa and the Lousios gorge
